Top 110 cc Bike in Indian !!

Hello,
Today I was answering one of my reader's query about TVS Star City bike, He wanted me to write a Review on all available 110 cc bikes in India and suggest him a good bike. To respect his query, I am going to write an article on 110 cc bikes of India.

* Remember, No bike is Perfect and No Bike is best for all buyer, It depends strictly on the Need, want and psychology of the buyer...

In order to start our journey lets know what are the bikes available in the market in 110cc segment.. (If I am skipping any bike, that means I believe that bike is not worth for Review w.r.t. other bikes in this segment).

1) Honda Twister. (49k To 56k)
2) Honda Dream Yuga / Neo (49k To 53k /  43k To 47k)

3) Yamaha YBR 110. (45k To 51k)

4) TVS Star City 110. (46.5k  To  52.5k)
5) TVS Jive. (49k)

6) Suzuki Hayate 110.(46.3k To 50.4k)

Above are the Ex-Showroom Price of all bikes in Delhi. The Price may vary little +/- 1k in Your city. If you want to know the Onroad Price add around 5000 to the Ex-Showroom Price.

Now, I think You can short-list your bike as per your Budget. If Your budget is around 50k, then you have options like - Yamaha YBR 110(Kick Start).     - TVS Star City (Kick Start)  or - Suzuki Hayate (kick/self)
and finally the New Honda NEO .

Now, time to Head-to-Head comparison.

Let me first make a filtration process from above bikes under some Criteria.
- Consider Honda Twister, if You opt for Racing Bike (In terms of Look only).
- Consider TVS Jive if You do not want to have a Clutch and Gear option.

So, Now we have 4 bikes to consider as Commuter Bikes (will also discuss the other two at the End)..

Honda Dream yuga or NEO:
As everyone know about the Re-fineness of Honda Machine. No doubt, its a Best in the Class. Its light weight, having highly durable engine, better mileage, good performance in city driving. But all comes with a Price. So, if You can ready to pay Rs.60000 (On Road), then definitely Go for it.

Some + in the Bike :

  • Mileage > 67 kmpl.
  • Nice Gear Shift Just like any other Hero/Honda Bikes, damn smooth.
  • Good Pick Up
  • Refined Engine (Though not as Shine).
  • Good Resell value
Some - in the Bike:
  • Skidding problem due to less width Tyres
  • Sound is not that much smooth like Unicorn or Shine.
  • Ugly look (Its a personal choice though), the seat is too long.
 TVS Star City 110 :
This bike is Good in all but unfortunately Best in none !! Its really bitter truth. It has less Price (though not that much), good mileage (Practically 65-70), Good Look n Feel, Spare Parts are cheep and all. But also it has some serious problem. Lets find it out..
Though, TVS claims 80+ mileage, but practically it gives around 65-70 kmpl, which is still good. But the Problem is Engine. TVS Engines are not that much smooth as Honda/Hero/Yamaha/Suzuki. Engine vibrates a lot at high speed @ 60kmph. Moreover, the bike is too Noisy @ high speed. After use of 2-3 years, the whole body makes noise except the Horn.. :) The Horn sound becomes noisy when the speed reaches at 60-70 kmph speed. Though, it has good pick up but the over noisy body spoils everything.

If You don't mind about the Noise and You are a Person who takes care of your thing, then You can opt for it. And also You have to ride the bike within 60 kmph speed at least 90% of time, then this bike can be a good option.
Yes, I have forgotten one more plus point of the bike, this bike has a very good Head light.

Yamaha YBR 110 :
This bike is Very sturdy, even better than Honda bikes. It will give you a long lasting taste. But but, it has only one issue ie. Mileage. Except that Every thing is fine. The Engine is Superb. The Power is Best. The look is better than many. NO Vibration issue with this bike. But, only issue is low mileage i.e around 55-65 (Depending on Your Luck and your driving style). So, if You are not that much conscious about Mileage, I would highly suggest you to Go for it.. Yes, one more thing, Yamaha Has Extremely Poor Resell Value. So, think twice before buying this machine.
If You can afford it for Long time (Because you will not get any amount if you sell it after 4-5 years) i.e more than 10 years then definitely GO for it...

Suzuki Hayate:
Suzuki is known for Quality Engine as all other Japanese makers (Honda/Yamaha). This bike is My Personal Choice. Because it has good look, well Priced, Refined Engine, No vibration issue like Honda or TVS bikes and also gives good mileage (around 70 kmpl). Now, again there are certain demerits also, it has very low resell value. The Bike is unable to make its position clear till today. So, who knows if its situation may be like LML Freedom or Kinetic Boss or even Suzuki Samurai ??? If this kind of situation happens in future, You will be suffered a lot Not for low Resell value but UNAvailability of Spare Parts. So, if still You can take a risk, You can Go for it. But frankly, I personally love the bike so much.

In Final Verdict:

  •    If You are looking for a good bike with Brand Name + Good Mileage + Good Resell Value + Refined Engine and You can compromise with Look and you can afford Rs.60000 for a 110 cc bike then Go for HONDA Dream Yuga or NEO(with little less price).
  • If You want to buy a INDIAN Bike, then Go for TVS Star city . It has Good Mileage + Good Pick up + Less Budget + Low cost spares. But You have to bear the Engine/Body Noise ... :).
  • If You want a world class bike with all facility except Mileage(55-65 depending on your luck)and You don't think much about Resell then Go for Yamaha YBR 110.
  • If You need all at a very attractive low price, go for Suzuki Hayate. But You are taking a risk of low resell value and uncertain future(which may happen as with Suzuki Samurai OR LML Freedom).
So, all are winners in Different point of Views. It just depends on the buyers choice or preference.

My Personal Verdict:

Go For Honda NEO instead of Dream Yuga, because it will cost little less (52k On road for Self Start Model !!). This bike will serve you in all respects mileage, Performance, Engine smoothness, Smooth Gear, Brand value, Resell value and all.

So, I think You are going to Buy a Honda Neo Today.. :)

Will Discuss about Twister in Next Post (In Detail)...

  2. Mr. Satya pls. Sugge. Me one more thing between honda neo & hero glamour pgmfi 125 which one is more durable . Is glamour really Gives 70 + Milage? (If No Issue For Budget)my Monthly Run Is Abt 2000 Km.

  3. First I would like to Thank You a lot for your appreciation. :)
Now, about Hero Glamour and Honda Neo : See, frankly speaking we should not compare them because they are in different Pear one in 110cc and the other in 125cc. One is commuter and the other is powerful commuterCumSports bike. One is light where as the other one is very heavy. So, there are a lots of difference between them. About Mileage, In Honda Neo You will definitely be ahead than Glamour. Its a bias free review.. Well, though Glamour can give You 70kmpl mileage but not in all situations like in City Traffic, Harsh Driving, more use of clutch and etc. But, Honda Dream Neo can definitely Give you more than 66+ mileage at any situation. So, thats a Plus point for Honda Neo.
Another fact is while designing a Commuter Bike, the makers used to keep the Mileage as the Most Preferred Criteria among all other. So, a Pure Commuter bike will definitely Give You Good FE.
But, If You want little powerful bike with good FE(of course less than Honda Neo) then You can definitely chose Glamour. But also remember the Heavy weight of the bike and the Power of its muscle.
Finally, I would suggest You to go for Honda Neo because :
Your Monthly travel is High (>1000 km). So, better opt for FE. and the most important fact is that, Honda Neo may give You more than 70-75 kmpl mileage. So, I think Neo will be the Best Choice for Your requirements.

  6. Nowadays every new bike buyer, searches internet to know about his desired bike and bikes prices. My favorite one out of all these bikes is Honda Twister which looks modern, sporty, powerful and comes with a low price tag.

  7. Very good discussion. But I have checked the Honda Dream Neo top speed is not more than 75kmph. This feature is somewhat very negative with this bike. What you say? I want to buy a new bike. After long searching on net, I conclude that Yamaha bikes are very good. But their re-sale value is very low. Even difficult sometimes to re-sale. Therefore, I had to leave Yamaha bikes. Then I read your recommendations about Honda Neo. But as i said earlier, top speed is very less. I dnot need much, but anything cons is cons. I am utterly confused which bike should I buy. Finally, I am staying with Hero Honda Splendor electric start. Please suggest how is this bike. And please suggest some other bikes up to 110cc category. Price and mileage is a no bar. Rather performance and riding experience should be pleasing.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Well Raj,
Basically there are very few options in 110cc. Still You need to chose 1... lets analyze what you need :

      1) Performance
      2) Low maintenance.
      3) Reliable.
      4) Resell Value.

According to Your requirements, following bikes are coming into picture:

      1) Honda Dream Yuga (But You have already cancelled it, so NO for it).

      1) Hero Splendor
      2) Suzuki Hayate.

Honda Twister is also a very good bike but having some cons like "poor resell value", "Under Performance @ high speed" but yes this bike has some good facts within it... like its fuel efficiency, Initial Pick Up, Look and Comfort and of course reliable Engine. I think You should test drive it once before you purchase any bike.

About Suzuki Hayate: In single word "All Round Performer in every department except Poor Resale value", but if you consider the Initial investment. It is not a bad deal...

Finally, your favorite Hero Splendor: Its definitely a winner... It is already Proved from its entry date. But its look is that old type. but if you don't care for look,, You should go for it..

      Thanks

  13. Dear Mr Satya,

I'm from Kathmandu, Nepal. I found your review of 110 cc bikes very helpful. I have been riding a Splendor for the past 10 year or so and have found it good on almost every count. I want to buy a new bike, probably a Honda, within a few weeks. I liked Twister for its stylish looks, but my mechanic told me its pick-up is not good, engine is not powerful and its spare parts are not easily available. Is it so? What are the plus and minus points of Twister. Kindly note that I travel at around 40-60 km/ph and do not travel much. I'm looking for a bike that gives a decent mileage, has a good resale value and will be durable enough for at least another five to seven years (Kathmandu roads are perhaps rougher than those of your cities). So, how good would Twister be for Kathmandu roads?

    Thanks

    Anil

    1. Dear Anil,
Its my pleasure to answer your query. Lets study about your requirements:

      1) You are inclined towards the look of Twister.. :)
      2) Speed : Economic i.e 40-60 kmph.
      3) Descent Mileage.
      4) Good Resell Value.
      5) Durable.
      6) Good Pick up and power (from your confusion over mechanic's word).
      7) Spare parts should be available.

From above, Twister will satisfy your requirement in most of the criteria but there are also few things you have to compromise with like :
      - Not so powerful @ high speed i.e. above 55kmph, otherwise very good initial pick up and balanced Power upto 55 kmph speed.
      - Resell value will not be that much great, because its a sporty looking bike. So, its customer radius is less and most importantly its costumers are having some psychological issue to buy a 2nd hand bikes.. :) Because who ever buy Sporty Bike, they are Passionate towards its Sporty Look and they will hardly compromise with a old bike. Its true, you can realize it if you think this little deeply. :)
      - It has a tendency to skid in Rain and High Speed due to Low width Tyres.
      - The Engine Vibrates after 55kmph.

Now, about Pros of the Bike :
      + Nice Look
+ Very Good Initial Pick up.
+ Good Power upto 55kmph speed.
+ Mileage of true 70kmpl on highway in Economic speed.
+ Reliable Engine, can last upto 7 years or 70,000 kms.

So, if you little compromise on speed and I think its not a Big thing for you as its almost same to the maximum IDEAL speed of the Bike i.e. 55 kmpl, then Twister is a Very Good Choice. Remember its Mileage will make you to Drive more and More with less fuel in the tank. Its look is awesome.

Finally, about its Spare parts, I am not aware of your locality but I think you will not face much Problem in this regard because this Bike is almost 5 years old till date..

Still have doubt, please go through my previous post:

Still Doubt, feel free to ask..

    1. Don't worry, your Bike will Give you at least 60kmpl mileage after 2nd service. But still I am confused about 50kmpl mileage from your Bike.. are you driving it properly !! I mean are you using less clautch during drive and not accelerating your bike often.. But anyway, still I am sure you will get 60+ mileage after 2000 kms...

      Please read following tips..

      http://indianbikereview.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-to-get-good-mileage-from-your-bike.html

Plz don't expect more PickUp from Dream Yuga as this is a pure commuter bike..

i am confused between dream neo and mahindra centuro.
what are expectations on centuro .
my basic needs are higher mileage ,should run at least for 7 to 10 years without much problem.
resell value is not a concern
should be some what stylish(but can be compromised).

    1. Hello Pinku,
I will suggest you to take a testdrive of Both bikes and then decide... But if you can compromise on PickUp, then Honda Dream Yuga is much more better, reliable machine than Centuro.

But, I am getting few good mouth of words about Centuro also specially regarding its Mileage... But, I can't say anything about its Engine Reliability and future.. So, you take testdrive of both bikes and decide...

      Thanks

  17. Dear Satya,
    thanks for your valuable inputs.
I had the test drive of both the vehicles for a strech of say 2 km in busy gurgaon trafiic.

Dream Neo gives very good pick up at lower rpm and the braking is good.
but i guess the ride and handling is not that good.
engine NVH really good and the built feels quite robust in nature.

Centuro also has good pick up but a more smoother one compared to neo.
the braking is also smoother in case of centuro.
look is better than neo and features are better compared to any 100 cc bike in the price range.
The only concern is the reliability aspect of the bike.i also faced some problem while downshifting form 2-1-neutral.

May be if you someday get a opportunity to test drive we can get some more insight and aspectsof centuro.

    3. Hello Ashish,
Well, Now You are making me confused !! :)
Lets know your requirements first, so that I can analyze it Properly.. Can You please inform me the following data..

      1) Your Budget
      2) Where you mostly Drive
      3) What is your monthly usage
      4) What Mileage You Expect
      5) What you Prefer most i.e. Reliability or Mileage or Look ?
      6) At what speed you want to Drive your Bike ?
      7) Your physic (height, weight) and if you want to drive with pillion then what would be the total weight ?

      Thanks

    4. thanks Mr. Narayan

      1. 50000-60000
      2. delhi
      3. 1200 km to 1400 km
      4 60 +
      5 Reliability and mileage
      6 60kmph
      7. 5"9 / 79kg
total weight with pillion 140 Kg

      Delete
    5. Hello Ashish,
From your requirements, I would suggest you to Go for a 125cc bike like Glamour, that will cost you Rs.59000 onroad. Because your weight is little more as well as Height, so for such physic better to chose 125cc bike. Again you want to drive @ 60+ kmph speed, which is another point of concern. No Commuter bike (100-110 cc) can withstand 60+ kmph speed with a load of 80 kg over it for LONG RUN i.e. more than 4 years.

But if you still want to go for 110cc Bike, you have 2 options except honda bikes.. they are TVS star city and yamaha ybr 110.

What are the Pros and Cons of TVS Star City:

      + Mileage of 60+
+ Good Power to weight ratio.
+ Spare parts are hugely available.
      + Good Road Grip.
+ Can withstand upto 55 kmph speed without any vibration.
      + Good Look.

      - Engine is not that much Refined..
      - Body Sound after 1 year of Purchase.
      - Though it can withstand highspeed i.e. upto 60kmph but will create noise.
      - The machine is not Reliable i.e. after 4 years, it's condition is like a Barking dog..

Now, About Yamaha YBR 110 :
      + Refined Engine.
+ Good Pick up or Power.
      + Can withstand 60kmph speed.
      + Reliable machine.

      - Mileage is a big concern here !! Though most are getting 60+ but there is a significant chance of getting 50+ kmpl mileage. As Yamaha is known as a Fuel Drinker.
      - No more issues with this bike except mileage and Resell Value.

Now, you decide which one to chose for..
I will always suggest you to go for a Higher cc Bike i.e. at least 125 cc .

Otherwise, you have to compromise with Speed i.e. from 60+ kmph to <55 kmph. And if you can compromise on Speed, you have one more Better option i.e. Honda Dream Yuga...

Still Doubt, feel free to ask..

      Thsnks

    6. I have another suggestion for you,,..
Please have a Test drive of all the Bikes in 110cc and shortlist them here as per your choice.
Then I will suggest the Best one for you from Your Choice..
I think this will solve all your confusions..

      Thanks

    3) My Daily usage : My Office is 25Km away, so in a day 50 KM
    4) Mileage I Expect : atleast 50-60
    5) I Prefer most : Looks, Resale Value, & Mileage
    6) At what speed you want to Drive your Bike ? : 40 - 50 kmph

    1. Dear Nikesh,
      Sorry for late response..
Yes, for your requirement Glamour will suite the best. Because it will Give you Better Mileage(60+ kmpl), Nice Look, Good Power and Resell Value. Well, there are options as well because Your Mileage Requirement is not that much high. There are other options like :

Honda Twister : Mileage 70 kmpl, descent Power, Good look but at the same time having Less width Tyres that tends to skip.

Honda Shine : all above with the same issue as Twister.

Yamaha YBR 110, SZ seriese : No Resell Value. No commitment on Mileage.. :(

Suzuki : No Resell Value and Uncertain future..

So, from all angles Glamour is Best for you.. It will cost u Rs.59,000 ON Road.

      Hope this will help you,,..
Feel free to post any doubts if still exist.. :)

      Thanks

  21. @Er Satya Narayan Sahu

I am Rajesh from Banglore. I have read all your posts an really you deserve every bit of praise for the reviews you have written. Hats off !!
I have 3 questions for you:-

    First Question:-
I am a 5 feet 8 inch tall and have weight of 90 Kgs.
Though, Shine is better than Glamour in terms of mileage, performance and tubeless tyre, but I have heard that Shine does not suit tall and fat people like me(I am not 100% sure about this fact).
I love Shine because of it's performance, and love Glamour just because it's suits me.

    So the question is clear,
Should I go for Shine ? (compromising with the fact that Glamour suits me more)
    or
Should I go for Glamour ? (considering that the performance, mileage etc. features of Glamour are enough for me to compromise with those of Shine, just to buy a more comfortable bike)

While answering, please do keep these things in mind:-
    1) I will drive 500 Km a month approx.
    2) I will drive mainly inside Banglore city i.e. not on Highways. (not a typical city traffic, but something between city traffic and Highway traffic)
    3) My speed will be around 40- 60 km/hr.

    Second Question:-
I am a very fearful guy and so want tubeless tyres instead of tubed tyres, to avoid accidents due to puncture. But Glamour does not provide tubeless tyres. The dealer told me that If I replace the tyre of Glamour with tubed one, the mileage will decrease and can cause other problems to bike.
Now please do tell me that how much decrease in mileage is observed if I replace the tyre with tubeless in Glamour ?
Also, are there any safety measures that can be taken to prevent puncture in tubed tyres and also prevent accident.

    My third question:-
I have only seen 2 or 3 glamour on the roads. On other hand, I have seen lot of Shine on road. That means, sale of Glamour is very less in comparision to Shine(at least in my city)
Please can you give the reason behind it?

    Thanks in advance..

  22. Sorry, for double posts..
My weight is 90 Kg and pillion's weight is 75 Kg. So total of 165 Kg.
I have also heard that it's difficult to drive Glamour with pillion in comparision to driving Glamour alone. (specially when you drive up on a flyover)

Sir, please decide the bike for me. I want to take it within 2 days

  23. Dear Rajesh,
I am really very sorry that Probably I couldn't help you since I am very late,,.. :(
But if you have not purchased any Bike, then I am giving some suggestion which will help you in this regard..

    Well,
As you told, you are 5'8'' height with 90 kg weight and your spouse is 75 kg weight. So, total 165 kg.. For this weight Sine should be Strictly Avoided . About Glamour, yes it can fulfill your Dream upto some Extent. But I would suggest you to go for a 150cc Bike like Unicorn or if you are Budget conscious go for Yamaha SZ r.
If you Purchase unicorn, You will be fully satisfied.. Because :
    1) Since your monthly driving is 500 kms, so you should not bother much for Mileage and unicorn can give you around 48 km pl mileage.
    2) You have very good Height and Physic, so with more Power of Unicorn you will feel much better while driving inside city traffic.
    3) It has pre-installed Tubeless tyres, so no need to worry about puncture.. :)

But if you want to have all those COMFORT (Not Mileage/Resell value) of Unicorn at low cost, then you can chose Yamaha SZr.
    1) Yamaha SZR is having powerful 150cc Engine. It is not only powerful but also Robust Engine.
    2) You will feel extremely comfortable due to its Power and PickUp.
    3) - The Only drawback is its FE. Well, it can give you 55kmpl, but it also give you just 40kmpl mileage as well. Its totally Uncertain and your Luck. But if you don't care much for mileage since you will drive 500 km/month, then You should go for it.

Lets see, the Difference between the 2 Bikes :
    Unicorn Vs SZr.
Unicorn will cost you 15k extra than SZR. (75,000 - 60000).
Mileage of Honda Unicorn is 50+ while SZR may give you 55 kmpl, may be in worst case 35 kmpl.
Comfort in Both bikes are almost similar.
Resell valueof Unicorn is Better than SZR.

Now, lets calculate how much Extra money you have to spend for SZR per month. We will assume that Unicorn will give you 50 kmpl and Yamaha will give you 40kmpl.
For 500 kms, you will need 10 lts petrol for Unicorn where as for SZR, u will need 12.5 ltr petrol. i.e. 2.5 ltr extra. for 2.5 ltr, you have to spend around Rs.180 pm extra.

So, now its upto you which bike to chose.
    Thanks

  26. Hello sir,
I am Bhaskar, a reader of your great blog. I like the way you analyse and suggest as per peoples need. I want to buy a bike mainly for city driving (40kmph) and sometimes in highway (vibration free 65kmph), 80% will be cityride. I will drive near about 1500 km per month. I don’t care about looks. I am 24 years old, 5.7 ft. tall and weight-70kg. I want a simple bike with-
    1. comfortable seats for both (70kg+60kg backseater),
    2. durability(ruf n tuf in uneven cityroads),
    3. low mentanence,
    3. reliability(I will take good care of my bike- longlife).
    4. minimum 50 kmpl mileage.
Should I go for Hero Motocop Passion Xpro or Tvs Phoenex or something else...
For a good bike I can go for any budget and any brand. Waiting for your valueable suggestion.
