How to get Good Mileage from Your Bike.. Expert Suggestions...

Hello Friends,
Yesterday one of my Reader purchased a Hero Glamour after reading my Blog and he wants me write a review on how to improve his bike's mileage. So, I am writing this article for the same with special emphasize on Hero Glamour :) Are You happy Now.. :)

Before Going to mileage, I think we should know few Basic Care Guide for a New Bike.. so lets start with that:

A new Bike is Like a New Dulhan.. :) So, from the very first day You should start caring her otherwise in future it may lead to a dissatisfaction between both.. :) In order to control your bike to run as per your wish, you have some responsibility for her..

1) 1st, add a Engine Mud Guard (around Rs.50-100) to your vehicle. It will keep your engine away from Mud that means better "Air Cooling". See, if You will not use it, the Engine Fins will be covered by the mud leading to Bad cooling of the machine. Because the engine Fins structures helps the engine to be cooled down faster. So avoid all the obstacles (here mud) from it.

2) Wash Your Vehicle by your own, because the Service center guys used to use Very high speed water thrust which will lead to damage the color of the New bike. To add this they used to use any detergent/shampoo for Cleaning, which may not be good for the Color of your bike. So, its always better to use Car Shampoo (F1 Wash and Wax, OR Amway car shampoo) for washing your vehicle. And Yes, make sure that, there is no mud over your Engine Head or Fins after washing. From my experience, I would like to advice you one thing that "Avoid washing your machine in Service Center even if in Hero" because most of the scratch mark in Your bike is being made during the Harsh washing in Service center. If its possible for you, you should tell the Service Center Manager (During Free Servicing which is mandatory) not to wash your bike there.

3) Use a Wax Coating or Amway Silicon Glaze after every wash which will keep your bike New like for a long.

4) Use Kick Start Every Morning. Don't self start at the morning. It will hamper both your Engine and battery.

5) After kick starting your bike, keep the bike without any acceleration or gear for 30-50 seconds, so that the engine will be warm up and that will lead to Good Mileage.

Now, about Mileage :

1) For New bike, upto 2500 - 3000 km drive your bike less than 40 kmph speed. It is the most important fact.

2) Try to have a long drive like around 100 km in HIGHWAY or Open street with a speed of 40 kmph. That will make your engine settle down to smooth operation. I suggest, make 2-3 long drives on HighWay.

3) Use Trip meter(which is available in GLAMOUR and other bikes) when your bike start running on RESERVE and then push the button to make it 0. Then run in a open street like HighWay and pour 1 ltr(or half litre or any thing like Rs.30 or Rs.40) fuel and check the mileage. I am sure You will get more than 55 kmpl in initial stage. Follow the following Thumb rules..

4) Keep High Pressure in the Back Tyre. Though it is advisable for 36 but make it upto 40 because Your Tyre is New so it will not make any Problem. Rather keeping high Pressure in Tyre will increase your fuel efficiency because of less contact with the Road.

5) Wash Your Filter every 1000-2000 km. That will increase your mileage.

6) Keep the Tuning at optimum for good mileage. But don't make it too low, that it will stop in Traffic and also lead to Engine Problem in future. Just check that, the Engine does not stops after tuning.

7) Drive Your bike without MUCH using the Clutch. That will give good FE.

8) Don't turn your accelerator fast if you want good mileage.

9) Run your machine with constant speed in economic zone i.e around 40kmph.

10) Finally, keep your vehicle single handed for good Performance of your bike for long term. Well, if you have younger/elder brother(s), then Don't think about this. Because I believe that Relationship is much more important than a machine.. You can Say NO to only friends, colleague and all but not to your own Brother, at least what I will Do in my case.

Hope You will get benefit by implementing these steps...
Happy n Safety Driving....:)

  4. Dear Sir
i am very much confused between Hero Glamour and Super Splendor. I am already using a Hero HF-Deluxe 100 cc for 2 years. it has given me lot of trouble, In 2 yrs 5 times Clutch Plate has been Changed, I am a bit fat when riding on some chaadan road it dosen’t climb even on 2nd gear, a person who is sitting along with me has to get down put in nuteral then again put first gear then it will climb up , by the time the other person has reached the destination by walking. Engine is hot if driven for half an hour & for cooling down it takes more than an hour, it shut down its engine in the middle of the road that time start kicking for at least 10-15 strokes it comes to life by the time i m exchausted. I m fed up with this bike. But this time I am looking for good mileage, power, zero maintenance , Decent look, Reliable Engine, No Vibration @ high speed, good control on road with good breaking system (not to skid). my avg running is 50 to 70 kms per day (local from vasai west station to sativali vasai east , as i am in marketing field). As per above requirements please suggest me a good bike.

    Thanks & Regards

    Rudolf
