Hero Glamour Expert Review and TestDrive Reviews

Hello Friends, Today I will put my reviews on Hero(Honda) Glamour after a TestDrive. I Know You love to read TestDrive Reviews just like me.

Well, I am going to TestDrive a 11 months old Hero Glamour.. So, keep your Helmet ON and ready to Drive with me.. :)

I just kicked the machine @ the morning, because its always advisable to kick start your machine everyday at least once at the morning. It will not only increase the longevity of the Engine but also that of the Battery. Then I used my 1st gear shift and started rolling the bike. I must say one thing, this bike is really a beast, it has very heavy kerb weight which is more than 130 kg. So, if You have Good Physic You can control it better else You may find little difficulty while riding the beast. It has very wider wheels that makes you sure that the bike will not fall down or slip at any situation.

Now, About the gear shift, well its not as much smooth as splendor or DreamYuga but it is not also that much bad. Only at the 2nd Gear, you may feel little issue otherwise the gear shift is extremely smooth. Another fact is that, when we drive high end bikes (higher CCs), one will definitely find a little tough gear shift While driving, its quite normal. So, No need to think about it.. About Gear Proportion,You must remember that you are driving a heavy and powerful bike of 125cc, so you need to shift the gears in proper proportion i.e the 3rd gear needs at least 20+kmph speed and for 4th gear, you must drive @ 35+kmph speed. But believe me, at a sped of 40kmph, the Bike is UltraSmooth, You will find as if you are flying on the road. There is not a single sound you can feel at this speed in 4th gear. So its a big Plus.

The Engine is a macho, its just a awesome. I don't know why HeroHonda is not advertising more this bike. If this bike will be compared to any other bike in the segment, this will be a sure winner. Even I will definitely accept that this bike is much better than that of Honda Shine.

About Look, No other bike in this segment can come close to this one. This is just a Sexy Beast. It has a very attractive Fuel Tank, Digital Odometer, Digital Trip Meter, Side Cowls, Par Excellent HeadLight, Ultra smooth Shock Absorvoir and all. So, You can't say NO for this bike.

Now Performance of the Engine, I don't care about the Specifications in the Catalog of various bikes. Just ride the bike You will feel the Quality. Some says it has less BHP rating than others in the segment, So What!!! Ride the bikes in this segment, then decide which is really best, just like a bull, don't go blindly with the catalog. This bike may have less Power in Specification Sheet, but when it comes to Practical situation this is much more better than other Competitors. It never fall You down in any situation. Many bikes including Honda Shine used to vibrate at a speed of 50 kmph but this bike is rough and tough even at 70kmph speed. And when you drive this bike at high speeds like 70-80-90 kmph, You will feel very comfortable and moreover you will feel no Vibration at all rather you will feel as if the Tyre grips are fully dominent over the road at such high speed. No chance of Slip..,

Fuel Efficiency, well it depends on the Driving Style and street condition. If you are a Experienced Driver, You can easily chuck out 55-60 kmpl in City Traffic and around 67+kmpl in HighWay. I think, this is best if we consider its Performance and look.

I drove the Bike @ a speed of 80kmph, and there was NO Vib issue in the Bike. Moreover, there is also NO slip attitude in the Tyre as it is Wider and it keeps strong grips in the Ground. So its just an awesome Experience.

Pros: Heavy Kerb Weight for more stability, Look, Comfortable long Drive, No Vibe issue, No Slip Problem due to wider tyres, Extremely nice Handling when driving at high speed.

Cons: Weight for lean bikers, Nothing Else...

My Final Verdict is Yes Yes and Yes, You must should go for this without any second thought.

  1. you rode pgm fi model?
I am planning to buy a fi model? Could you suggest me how this is worth? Also I am concerned about the service? Most of the reviews for fi model is that road side mechanics couldn't service it.
Can you let me know what are all service normal mechanic couln't handle?

    Expecting your reply?
Your choice for normal Glamour or fi model of glamour?

  3. Hello Satya,

First of all let me appreciate for your hard work on getting information on most of the bikes. You are doing a very good job.

Now I would like to know about whether this bike suits my requirements. I heard from one of my friend says this bike is moving fast in Andhra Pradesh.

I'm 5.6 and weighing 76 KG and a bit fat looking guy. I'll ride daily 40-50 kms in Chennai city traffic. I'm not a racer but I use to go at a speed of 50-60, not more than 60 :D . To put all my requirements here are they

    1. Good Mileage - Primary concern
    2. Low/Average Maintenance Cost
    3. Not too heavy. (Should be able to pull for at least 2-3kms in case of petrol over or puncture)
    4. For daily use only (in traffic)- I don't do long drives
    5. Not on fashion edge - Bike with good look.
    6. Top speed (no criteria. I won’t be racing with it, but the bike should not cry @ 60 speed)
    7. Resell value.

Considering above all please suggest me a bike. In my mind there are two bikes

    1. Hero Glamor PGM FI model
    2. Honda Unicorn.

Please help me in getting a new bike.

    Thank you

    2. Hello Kishore,
First of all "No Bike can Satisfy our all tastes..". Its very True.. :) I am 5'5" height and I can handle it, so You can definitely Handle it easily. See, If you go For Honda Unicorn, You will definitely get a very good bike, but the fuel efficiency would be around 50+. At the Same time, the Bike is Heavier than Glamour (Though Glamour is not light weight, but still manageable). Another factor is Pricing, Unicorn will cost You more than 15k Extra than Glamour. Considering all above, I think Glamour will be better for You. The only Problem is weight, but this exists in both case. My advice is "While Purchasing the Glamour, ask the Dealer to change Your Tyre with a Tube Less tyre", for which he may ask for 200-400 extra bucks, but still you save 15k :).. By using a Tubeless Tyre, You need not to worry MUCH about pulling the bike, as it can easily run to the nearest garage for puncture.. But for Petrol problem, I don't have any solution(No Bike has this facility Yet.. :)). I can suggest you to keep the fuel tank on ON every time.. :) Hope this will help You...
Second thing is "I am happy that You appreciate my blog".. :)

  4. Hi Satya,

Thank you very much for your reply. I rode Glamor last week and as you said there was slight tightness in the gear shift but not a very big deal. I've chosen Glamor with Disk (not PGM FI)and it's cost is around 64500/- (on road).

Per your direction I'll go with tubeless tires. I inquired with some people using this bike and they said the bike is giving around 65 KMPL in city traffic.

I'm going with this bike :) and once again thank you very much for your writing and reviews .. Happy blogging always :D.

    Thanks and Regards

  7. People are advising not to buy Hero bikes from the time it has separated from Honda bcz engine is not good of hero
Only this is the reason why I want honda shine instead of hero glamour.. Can you suggest??

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Justin,
Its very common to hear this kind of Mouth words about Hero after it get separated from Honda. But, at the same time We should know the Fact. Hero is still using Honda's Technology till 2014, so Honda is still within Hero Now.. :) So, we should not think that Hero is gone. Let me give You an example, When Anil Ambani started his business after separation from his elder brother Mukesh Ambani, people started to spread that "Anil Ambani is going to loose in the Business because he has NO prior experience like Mukesh.. ". But did that Happen ? NO.. So, You should not be biased by anyone's word without any concrete evidence...

About shine and Glamour, shine has a lots of Problem as I mentioned like Engine Vibration, Skidding Problem etc. So, better to go for Glamour. Glamour is Powerful, Beautiful, Strong and Robust,,, So GO for it... You will not be Disappointed ...

  8. Sir can you also give a full review of hero super splendor(125 cc) and compare bit with hero glamour and honda shine

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi,
About Super Splendor, I will definitely write a Full review soon. But for the Time being, I want to give you some hints...
      - Super Splendor should not be compared with Glamour, because this bike is PURE Commuter. Its look is not sporty. Though, it is using the same engine as that of Glamour but with different tuning. So, the Power will be less than Glamour.

      - If You ask me to suggest between Super Splendor and Honda Shine, I will suggest You SHINE over Super Splendor (If budget is not a constraint). Because Shine has better look, better Pick Up, Better Resell Value and sometimes similar mileage. And Yes, if you want Shine, Just ask the Dealer to Exchange the Tyre with a Wider one to avoid skidding. And treat the bike as a commuter i.e. Don't race your bike above 50-60 kmph speed.. :)

      - About Super Splendor, The look and feel is not that good. It has comparatively less power but good mileage. It has low price. The Only Problem is its look and after 4 years, it will start creating sounds from the Body. But if You are tight in Budget, You can Go for it..

See, basically I give advice as per the Person's Requirements and the final decision taker is the Person.. :) So, You chose which one is your requirement and take the corresponding suggestion... Hope it will resolve Your doubts...

      1) If You want Power + Look + Mileage + Resell value Go for Glamour.

      2) If You want Initial Pick up + descent look + Mileage + Smooth Engine(at low speed upto 50 kmph) + Very good Resell Value and You can compromise with Sporty look and Vibration at High Speed (i.e you will mostly or 90% time ride your bike below 50kmph speed) then Blindly Go for Honda Shine.

      3) If you are not a Power hungry and You ride your bike mostly in city with less speed and You are not caring much for look You can go for Super Splendor in very good Budget.. Here You will get Commuter look + average Power + Very Good Mileage + Good Resell Value.

      Thanks

  9. Hi Satya,

It would not be fair on my part, if I haven't heartfully thank you for your blog, and detailed reviews. This is because, I owned a Glamour on 10-Oct-2013. I felt very comfortable (except that gear shifting prob in 2nd gear). All i need is to thanks you once agian.
I will update you on the mileage part after my 1t serviceing is done. I am from HYDERABAD, AP.

    1. Also, I forgot to mention that this is my 2nd bike. Earlier I have TVS Victor GL, have been using from last 11 years, and still in good condition. Only problem i am facing is its mileage, (just 40 KMPL). As a matter of fact, I still like VICTOR only (as it is my 1st love, and gift from my dad :).

    2. Dear Prajesh,
Thanks a lot for your sweet words,,. :) I expect you will not be disappointed for your decision or for my suggestions. You should definitely get a 60+ figure on open street and inside city you may get something around 55kmpl . :)

    3. Hi Satya,
      you are absolutely right.
I am very much satisfied with the initial ride, and performance and sturdiness of my new beast :).
Only thing I am eagerly waiting is towards the mileage. I may update you in next week about the same. Fingers crossed.
For now, I am riding my bike in the range of 35-50 KMPH only, I will follow it till first 2000-3000 KMS.
      Thanks once again.

    4. Hello Prajesh,
Please have a long tour over Highway like 200km with a speed of constant 40kmph. It will make your engine familiar with the Road, moreover it will make your engine smoother. So, now you should move over highway with 40 kmph speed and enjoy the engine sound.. :) I will suggest you to go on 2-3 long drives like 100 km up and 100 km down or something like this ON HIGHWAY and with a constant speed of 40 KMPH. You can check the mileage Now from reserve to reserve using the TRIP meter. Even now, ON Highway, I am sure you will get around 57-60kmpl mileage. So, lets have a long drive in Economical speed.. :)

      Thanks

      Sure.
As per ur suggestion, I will plan this week end for a long drive. I am not sure I may go for 100+100 kms, but up and down i will plan for atleast 50+50 kms. I will update you on the mileage part.
I am not that much in to mechanical side to understand the dynaamics og that engine, and others, but I am njoying the ride daily, in the JNTU -> Hitech city road.
Also, I heard that no pollution certificate for 1st year. Am I right ?

    11. Hi Satya, Good Morning once again.
As per your suggestion I went for a long drive on highway @ 40 to 45 KMPH for about 55+55 kms.
I observed that no diff in my mileage for that drive. (I went with a friend who can drive to keep help me if needed).

Still 1st service is pending (now total reading is 520 kms on board). I may go to 1st servicing some time in next week.
What is ur say on this output. Please suggest something.
      Thanks.

    12. So, You are getting 44 kmpl .. Now, your odometer shows 520 kms...
Its time for 1st servicing. Please ask the technician about the Mileage issue and let him correct the Tuning or anything else. You should change the Engine oil in the 1st servicing also. I expect You will definitely get better Mileage after the servicing.. Else don't forget to ask the Dealer to resolve the issue or you will file a Consumer case against them.. :) Just threat them for the time being. If the issue still persist after 2nd servicing i.e. 2500 kms, you should file a consumer case..

      Thanks

      Delete
    13. Infact I am getting only 41KMPL. I tested by pouring 5 lits at a time and also 1 lit at a time. So as you told, I will strongly tell the showroom manager as it is a serious issue for me.
But do u think any change it can make in terms of mileage ?
I am planning next monday for 1st servicing. I will again update you on the status. Thanks a lot.

      Delete
    14. Yes, Definitely the Mileage should never be less than 60kmpl on Highway. Hero is claiming 83 kmpl, so if you get less than HALF of it.. Definitely, you should file a Consumer case. Because, your piece might be a faulty one.. Know your Right and fight against them..

      Thanks

      Delete
    15. But, just let them threat about the same and write a mail to Hero Website regarding the issue. After 2000 kms, if the Problem persist then you take a strong action against the same.. In the Mean time, you would have many Proofs (Emails conversion between Hero and You) on your hand for the consumer case.. So, that will Definitely in the favor of you..

      Thanks

    16. Satya, Thanks you for all the support in this issue.
Today only I gave for 1st service. There the service head told that Glamour must give 60, without which it is waste.
Also, he told that tuning will be done, and then chk by changing more than 1 bunk. if still problem persists, he asked me to come and stay there, and in front of me, they will test the mileage itseams.
So, am waiting to collect my Glamour, and test it.
I will update you on the progress in next 4 or 5 days after testing.

Also, Can you please provide me the mail ID of HH, to which I shall start complaint communication ?

    1. Hello Jomy,
Well, Glamour is a better choice for You but at the same time I will like to know little more information from you to analyze your requirements properly..

Please help me to resolve your doubt by giving following information...

      1) Mileage : How much mileage you want ? OR will you satisfied even with 50kmpl mileage ?

      2) How much monthly usage ? (in kms)

      3) Do You want to Drive @ High Speed or within 40-55 kmph.

      4) How old is your son/daughter ? Does (s)he require to sit in the Seat or with the arms of your wife ?

      5) What is the approximate weight of COMBINED you, your wife and your son.

      6) Are You OK with Hero Dream Yuga look,, ? Or you want sporty look?

      7) Your budget for the bike ?

      Thanks

    2. Hello Sir, thank you for the quite reply. Below are details you have asked for:
      1. Mileage - I will be mostly using the bike within city, and I expect around 55-60 kmpl within city.
      2. Monthly usage - will be only around 400-450 kms.
      3. Speed - Myself with family will be riding only 40-50 kms; when riding alone I may go up to 70 kmpl.
      4. My daughter is now 1-1/2 years old, she needs to sit either in the seat between us, or at the front also. With our daughter, this is usually only once or twice per week ride.
      5. We together weighs nearly 150 kg.
      6. It should be good looking such that I want to use it for 8-10 years, but I do not like over-styled sporty bikes. I saw the picture of Honda Dream Yuga, it is good looking, even though not as Glamour. Is it Dream Yuga the bike for me?
      7. Budget is maximum 65,000 on-the-road.

Waiting for your reply. Kindly suggest. Thank you.

    3. Hello Sir, please also consider low maintenance and resell value also.

  12. Hello Jomy,
Well, for your requirements I picked few deciding points like :
    Mileage 55+ kmpl.
    Load of 150 kg.
You want to drive the bike @ 70 kmph speed when alone.

From this, the 2nd and 3rd requirements tends you to chose Glamour.. Because any 110cc bike (DreamYuga or whatever) can't withstand 150 kg load smoothly. Moreover, 110cc Bike will let you feel very insecure @ 70 kmph speed too. You can drive upto maximum 55-60 kmph with Dream Yuga but not @ 70 kmph speed.. :(

Though Dream Yuga can give You a City Mileage of 65 and Highway mileage of around 70kmpl but it can't give that much Comfort and feel pleasure effect @ highspeed. If you can Promise that You will Drive your Bike below 55kmph speed at least 80% times then You may consider this Bike.. At high speed, you will feel like Flying due to less weight of the Bike..

On the Other hand, Glamour will give you around 55 kmpl mileage inside City and 65 kmpl on Highway with More Comfort, Look and Stability due to Heavy weight. Moreover, your Height will suit for this Bike. But remember, in Heavy Traffic you may get little less mileage like 52-55 kmpl mileage. Except CITY Mileage, this bike will fulfill all your Requirements with ease. It can easily run upto 70,000 kms or 5-7 years without any Engine Problem. Moreover Hero is Providing 5 years warranty on Engine for the peace of your mind.. :)

Still, lets know about the main factor between the Bikes i.e. Mileage and lets find out how much you have to pay extra per month between the bikes..

Lets assume the average mileage of Honda Dream yuga be 65kmpl. So, for 425 kms you need 6.54 ltr petrol per month.
Again lets for Hero Glamour the average mileage would be 55 kmpl. So, for 425 kms you need 7.7 ltrs petrol.
So, a difference of 1.16 ltr or Rs.85 per month.

As per my opinion, Rs.85 is not a big amount against the Comfort, Power, Performance, Look and most importantly Stability of Glamour w.r.t. Dream Yuga.

So, I will suggest you to go for Hero Glamour without any 2nd thought in mind..

(Resell Value of both Bikes would be similar)

    Thanks

    1. I left one more point about the Comfort level of pillion. Well, it depends upon your own choice. Glamour has little Sporty look and hence its seat is up-down style. It will not create any problem if your wife will sit keeping both legs both side. But, if she sits keeping the legs towards left side, then she may feel little discomfort at the Beginning. But, as Your height is 5'10" so it will not create any Problem Practically. But if still she feel little uncomfortable, You can add little Sponge beneath the seat of YOUR part to make the seat FLAT.. It will cost you maximum 50-100 bucks depending on your locale. And everything will be OK then...

Still have confusion, feel free to ask @ IndianBikeReview.. :)

      Thanks
      Good Night

    1. NO difference in terms of longevity .. The only thing is even with a Puncture in your Tubeless Tyre, You can still move 50+ kms just by giving Pressure to it.. But at the same time, the repair cost of the Tyre is around 3 times more than the puncture in the Tube..

  18. Why there are very less Glamour PFI bikes on road? Is there any issue with it?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hello satya,
As you told about the city mileage of about 55-60 kmpl, are you talking about PFI or normal model?if its for PFI then please inform about the city mileage of non PFI model.?????

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi,
I have repeated earlier that the mileage does not depends on the machine rather it depends on the person who drives the machine in a skilled manner.
so there is nothing to worry about the mileage of a Hero Honda pfi model or general model; you can extract the same 55 to 60 kilometre per litre mileage from general model if you are able to handle it smoothly in traffic.

But, remember in heavy traffic, no bike can give you 50+ mileage except hero honda splendor or honda dream yuga. That means no bike more than 110 cc can give more than 50 kilometre per litre mileage in heavy traffic. still you can achieve around 55 kilometre per litre from glamour in moderate traffic but I can assure you that you can get 60 to 70 kilometre per litre from grammar on highway if you drive at a constant speed of around 40 to 60 kilometre per hour.

    Thanks

    1. Thanks for your reply
Actually very confused between splendor pro and glamour as I want a bike with decent mileage and good road grip .my average use would be around 20-25kms per day(80% single)...

    2. Hi Asif, can you please tell me about some more detail of your riding style... because I want to know if you will drive your bike MORE in city traffic or on highway. ok.. if you are driving most of the time on highway or with less traffic then you can choose glamor blindly. But, if you're driving inside City then I would suggest you to go for the Honda Dream Yuga instead of splendor pro because honda dream yuga will give you Consists mileage and it has good resale value and also better power..

if you still need any suggestion you may ask me here but please I request you to give some more detail about your driving like

How much you drive for a day.

how much you drive inside city traffic and over highway.

How much mileage you are expecting on an average ( inside city and over highway)

how much load you want for your bike.

do you want a Powerful bike or a simple and better mileage giving bike.

please come back with these details I will definitely help you.

      thank you

  22. Hi,Satya.
My riding is basically 75% city drive, and as I already told that 80% single but 20% would be approx 150 kg,and my daily riding could be 20-25kms.one more thing I would like to share that I am using pulsar150 since 8 years, feeling it over weight and fed up with very poor mileage as basically using within city traffic.so I am opting for a lighter option but again thinking that 100 cc would be very light and i might experience road grip issue and as for the mileage I am expecting 50+kmpl within city moderate traffic.Actually I read your review of glamour and got very impressed with your review....still not final.so please suggest
    Thank you.

    1. Yes, 100cc bikes will be very much lighter. In fact, Hero Dream Yuga is extremely lightweight. so if you have already experienced with 150 cc bike then it would be better for you to choose glamour. Moreover you are not that much carving for mileage; you're expecting a mileage of around 50 kilometre per litre and i can assure you that glamour can be able to provide similar mileage without any issue. Moreover, it has better road grip and good weight so you will never feel like flying on the road while driving glamor which is happened with other 100CC or 110cc bikes.
hope you have come to a Conclusion and now you can go ahead with Hero Glamour without any doubts...

Do come back after your purchase...

      Thanks

    1. Hi sumit,
If you have already purchased glamour drum brake then I would say you have taken a wise decision. Frankly speaking, drum brake bikes are more reliable than that of disk brake; this is because drum brake will provide you controlled experience over the bike than that of disk brake. Though, disc brake is a superior Technology but it is not at all recommended without anti braking system i.e. ABS. Disk brake without ABS is really dangerous sometimes. So, we usually recommend for drum brakes.

As u have already purchased drum brake so there is no issue at all. you should go ahead and I hope that you will definitely enjoy riding your new glamour and yes if you are thinking about adding disc brakes in future that is not at all an issue; but that is not at all required as well. Why you unnecessarily put extra bucks that is around 8000 rupees for this brake? it is absolutely waste of Money.. Moreover, it is not at all recommended at least from my side. I will say, you will have a pleasure experience with your glamour with drum brake. I hope now you have no confusion. I am expecting that you will get all that you are expecting from your bike that is from glamour. It will give you better mileage, Road Grip, and obviously Exelanz driving experience.

      Thanks
