Best or Top Commuter segment Bike in India

Hello Friends,
After a long time, I am again back with a new and fresh article on "Indian Commuter segment Bikes". Before jumping into the topic directly lets have a look about the segment i.e the bikes that fall in this segment. well, following are the list of bikes in the segment (100 or 110cc Bikes)

1) Honda DreamYuga
2) Hero Splendor Pro / Hero CD Deluxe.
3) Hero Passion Pro.
4) Bajaj Discover 100.
5) Bajaj Platina 100cc.
6) TVS Star Sports .
7) Suzuki Hayate.
8) Yamaha YBR 110.
9) Yamaha Crux 100.

Now lets shortlist them as per their Performance:

1) Honda Dream Yuga
2) Hero CD Deluxe (I am cutting the Splendor name bcz both are having same Performance but CD has low Price)
3) Bajaj Discover 100.
4) Suzuki Hayate 110.
5) TVS Star Sports.
6) Hero Passion Pro

I am cancelling Bajaj Platina due to lack of essential features like Self Start and others. Similarly, I feel Yamaha Crux is the worst looking bike From Yamaha. Again Yamaha is not at all focusing on its commuter bikes, they are quite Enthusiast about their High Range 150cc Bikes, so I can't recommend Yamaha YBR 110 bike to You.

Now, Lets have a Head to Head ShootOut in the Specification Sheet First:

Model Price Engine Specs Performance Power Weight / Torque Mileage Pros Cons
Dream Yuga 55,000 (On-Road) 110cc , 2 valve . Torque @ high rpm ensures No vibration @ High speed unlike Shine.

6.35 KW (8.5 bhp) @ 7500 rpm

108 KG,

8.91 Nm @5500 rpm

72 Viscous Air Filter which does not require regular washing.
2)Tubeless Tyres
3)Engine smoothness.

1) Weight
2)Look is not so apealing but still good as a commuter.3) Lack of Digital Console.
4) Highly priced.
Hero CD Deluxe 47,000 (On-Road) 97.3cc, 2 valve A good Commuter bike and Probably the best commuter bike from Hero.. (Now) 5.74 kW (7.8 Ps) at 7500 rpm 108 KG,

8.04 N-m) @4500 rpm
68 1)Low Price.
2) 2 step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber .

Same as Dream Yuga. except Price.
Hero Passion Pro 55,000 (On-Road) 97.3cc, 2 valve Good bike with graphics design. 5.74 kW (7.8 Ps) at 7500 rpm 108 KG,

8.04 N-m) @4500 rpm
60 1) Good Design.
2)Digital console.
1)Mileage.
2) High price n without Tubeless Tyres
Bajaj Discover 100cc 53000 (On-Road) 94.38cc, 2 vavle Best Mileage in the Class 7.7 PS@ 7500 115 KG,
7.7 NM @ 7500
73 1)Best Mileage.
2) Low Price but having all features.
1)Unreliable Engine.
2)Engine smoothness.
Suzuki Hayate 110cc 48000 (On-Road) 113cc, 2 valve Good Look, Descent Mileage and Suzuki Engine 8.3 BHP of power at 7500 RPM 112 KG,
8.62 NM of torque at 5500 RPM
68 1) Good Combination of Everything but best in nothing 1) Resell Value.
TVS Star Sports 100cc 45,000 (On-Road) 99.7cc, Excellent Graphics with good Indian Engine 5.5 KW (7.37 BHP) @ 7500 rpm 7.5 NM @ 5000 rpm. 67 1)Excellent Graphics. 2)Good Engine.
3) Low Price.
1) Engine and Body Sound after 2 yr. 2) Not so Reliable Engine.

Now from above Head to Head ShootOut, the winner is Clearly "Honda Dream Yuga". It has best Engine which is already proven (in Twister and Activa). Average look but its good if we consider commuter bikes. It has very good Fuel Efficiency of around 72kmpl as claimed by Honda. And Most importantly the Resell Value and Honda Brand Engine is something that will always be in ahead.

For the 2nd Position, Hero CD Deluxe or Bajaj Discover 100 or Hayate are in the card. Well, CD Deluxe has Extremely ordinary look, No Great thing in it neither in Graphics nor in any Special effects (like Digital Console or TubeLess Tyres) . Only reason is its Low cost and Hero Brand Value, but the latter one (Brand Value) is going down Day by Day,. :( So if You are Die Hard fan of Hero, You could go for it but don't expect the Reliability of HeroHonda Splendor which was the Market Leader for a Decade.

Now, about Bajaj Discover 100, it claims a mileage of 100kmpl, which is in Ideal Condition like inside a Vacum Closure where there is no Friction, No Path Holes, No air friction etc,, but in real world it may give 75+ mileage. But as I always speaks upto How Much,,.. ?? Bajaj is still behind than Other market leaders in terms of Engine Reliability, in my Openion TVS is producing good products day by day. Well, if You are driving excess or you are in a profession where you have to commute 100kms daily then Bajaj is a good choice but be ready to sell it after 2-4 yrs of usage.

About Suzuki Hayate, well it has a very good Engine, good mileage, Low Price, Good Look and all but the only Question mark is "Will it be in the market after 5 Years ??".. Just Remember LML Freedom which was sold extremely highly in that period, but later on it was vanished from Indian Market.. So, Suzuki is not Yet Established in India and hence its Future is Uncertain. But if You don't want to think about the Reselling of your bike and want a good Bike with Very good Engine,, then Go for it Blindly... It will give you all the pleasure at the minimal Cost.

About, Hero Passion Pro, I don't want to discuss much,, because it is the most failure engine from Hero in its Commuter segment Bikes(Currently). It has nothing good except Style.. The previous HeroHonda Passion Plus was much more better than this one.

Finally, TVS Star Sports is a bike for Ordinary people who wants a budget INDIAN bike with all necessary features and Very nice looks . It is really a very good bike if You consider its price with its look and features. But only problem is it produces High Noise after 2 years from Body.. So, its upto You to whether to go for it or Not.. But from all other angles its a very very good bike.. :)

Final Verdict:

If You want a overall good bike with Resell Value Go for Dream Yuga Blindly.

If You want everything in Budget with a good Engine and don't bother about resell value, go for Suzuki Hayate.

If You are Driving much more (at least 3000km per month), then Go for Bajaj Discover 100.

If You are a Die Hard fan of HeroHonda(Its Hero now), go for CD Deluxe.

If You want everything stylish and want a little investment in your bike(Cost of Bike) ,, go for TVS Star..

My Final Verdict:

 1) Honda DreamYuga.
2) Suzuki Hayate.
3) Hero CD Deluxe.(Or Bajaj Discover 100)

Hope You resolved Your issue for purchasing a good Bike... Any Comment/Complement/Suggestions are Highly Welcomed....

Thanks

  1. I agree. Honda and Yamaha are some of the best bike providers in the world. Their motorcycles are best for leisure and for business as well. They are tested and proven to give maximum performance and last for a long time.
